López de Heredia veinimõisa asutas Don Rafael López de Heredia 1877. aastal. Väga vähe on selle viimase 139 aastaga muutunud ning maailmas on vaid mõni üksik veinimõis, kes tänapäevani valmistab veini oma esivanemate printsiipide kohaselt. Hinnatud veiniajakirjanik Tim Atkin on oma mitteametlikus Rioja klassifikatsioonis valinud López de Heredia veinimaja kõrgeimasse First Growth kategooriasse.

Hispaanias ei ole tõenäoliselt teist veinimõisa, kellel on selline kogemus nii pika laagerdusega valgete veinide valmistamisel. Kui pika tammelaagerdusega valge vein jätta veel aastateks pudelisse küpsema, siis kõik tammes tulevad teravamad nüansid kuluvad maha ning esile kerkivad hoopis teised aroomid – mandlid, vanilje, pähklid ning vürtsikus.

Veini valmistatakse ainult oma aedade saagist. Kääritamine toimub suurtes tammemahutis (60-640 hl), nendest osad on 140 aasta vanused. Veinid laagerduvad vanades suurtes Ameerika tammevaatides, mis valmistatakse ise mõisas. Lopez de Heredia on ainuke Hispaania bodega, kes kõik oma tammevaadid ise käsitsi valmistab.

Keskmiselt 45 a vanused Vina Gravonia veinipuud asuvad 340 meetri kõrgusel 24 hektaril Zaconia (Rioja Alta piirkonnas) nimelises veiniaias, kus pinnas on vaene ning kivine. Gravonia Crianza on laagerdunud 4 aastat Ameerika tammevaatides ning vähemalt 6 aastat pudelis. Kääritamisel pole lisatud pärmi.

Aroomis on tunda mett, meevaha, kummelit, hiniini, sidruni kooki ja erinevaid ürte. Maitse on kuiv, tunda on pirni koort, apelsini, röstsaia, mandleid ja virsiku kivi. Väga kauakestvas järelmaitses on tunda veel natuke vaha ning viljapuuaedade hõngu.

“2016 was a superb vintage in Rioja, and the 2016 Viña Gravonia Blanco, which has the cellar aroma that all the wines, especially the whites, have, due to the longer time the wines spend in barrel. The white vines in this vineyard are now 92 years old and their juice was fermented in old oak vats with indigenous yeasts. They explained, “We have never used selected yeasts.” It was matured in their well-seasoned American oak barrels for four years. It’s paler than any of the other whites, and it has a little less pungency, with very good freshness. It’s elegant, subtle, clean and ethereal. They had good yields and a good climatic year. 42,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022. I give these wines a conservative drinking window, but they will probably last much longer.” Wine Advocate 95 points
