Kirjeldus
Coudoulet viinapuuaiad kuuluvad Chateau de Beaucastel’i veinimõisa valduse koosseisu, kuid asuvad valduse keskusest idas Cotes du Rhone veinipiirkonna haldusalas. Kokku hõlmavad aiad 30 hektarit, pinnas on identne Chateauneuf-du-Pape piirkonna pinnasega, ladestunud settekivimid ja suured ümarad kivid iidsel merepõhjal. Veini valmistamiseks kasutatakse 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah ja 20% Cinsault viinamarjasorte. Viinapuuaedade keskmine vanus on 30 aastat. Viinapuuaedade harimisel rakendatakse orgaanilise põlluharimise põhimõtteid.
Viinamarjad koristatakse ja sorteeritakse käsitsi. Veini valmistamisel kasutatakse nn. kiir-kuumutamise meetodit, terved viinamarjad kuumutatakse hetkeks 80 kraadini ja seejärel jahutatakse maha 20 kraadini. Igast viinamarjasordist valmistatakse eraldi vein, leotus ehk matseratsioon kestab 12 päeva raudbetoonist mahutites. Seejärel eemaldatakse kõigepealt nn. “vabalt voolav” (free-run) mahl ja ülejäänud veinivirret pressitakse suruõhu pressiga. Pärast malolaktilise käärimisprotsessi lõppu veinid segatakse omavahel (assamblage). Vein laagerdub seejärel 6 kuud suurtes 40 hektoliitri suurustes tammevaatides ning sette eemaldamiseks veinist kasutatakse munavalgeid.
Vein on värvuselt sügav tumepunane, aroomis tulevad esile punased puuviljad, mustikad, must kirss ja lagrits. Maitselt meeldivalt täidlane, tunda intensiivset puuvilja, loomanahka, tobacco’t, tüümiani, väga elegantse tekstuuriga ja pika kestvusega lõppmaitses. Soovitav serveerida 16 kraadi juures. Suurepärane kaaslane linnuliharoogadega, küpsetatud loomalihaga, punasest lihast hautistega, keskmiselt küpsete juustudega.
2018 Vintage Rating
“Lovely density and darkness to the colour, density of fruit too on the palate. Very well balanced, with dense, deep, grippy tannins. The Mourvèdre makes itself known this year – intense damson and liquorice on the long finish. A good value pick. 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 10% Vaccarèse/Terret Noir/Muscardin, 3% Cinsault, 7% white varieties. Grenache and Cinsault fermented in cement, Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in foudre.” Decanter 93 points
“Tasted as a sample blended from several foudres, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel features scents of sun-warmed stones and ripe raspberries. Medium to full-bodied, it’s plush and open-knit, already giving a lot of pleasure, and finishing zesty and long.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 91-93 points
“From a vineyard just across the A7 interstate, on the northern edge of Châteauneuf Du Pape and not far from the estate, the 2018 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet De Beaucastel offers a pretty, medium to full-bodied, elegant profile that’s a great introduction into the 2018 vintage. Complex notes of garrigue, peppery spice, and dark fruits all emerge from this nuanced, balanced effort that will drink well right out of the gate.” Jeb Dunnuck 89-91 points
2019 Vintage Rating
“A well-balanced, perfectly ripe, very fresh expression this year. Fine tannins, with good grip, harmonious acidity and dark streak of concentrated fruit into the finish. You’ll be glad you bought some of this. Not hugely deep or hugely complex, but beautifully balanced. 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 10% Vaccarèse/Terret Noir/Muscardin, 3% Cinsault, 7% white varieties. Grenache and Cinsault fermented in cement, Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in foudre.” Decanter 92 points
“Bottled just a month before this tasting, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet De Beaucastel is showing brilliantly, with a rich, medium to full-bodied, textured style that displays the ripe, sexy style of the vintage. Offering lots of both black and blue fruits as well as truffly earth and garrigue notes, it can be enjoyed any time over the coming 10-12 years.” Jeb Dunnuck 92 points
“Solidly built, with a core of steeped plum and blackberry fruit that pumps along nicely, supported by dark licorice and warm earth notes, with flashes of worn leather. Offers some eye-opening stuffing for its designation. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault.” Wine Spectator 91 points
