Domaine Anita is located in the heart of the Moulin à Vent cru in Beaujolais, France. The winery was established by Anita Kuhnel, a former professional cyclist, in 2015. She took over 18 hectares of vines first planted in 1973. The vineyard includes some of the most prestigious crus of Beaujolais including Moulin à Vent, Morgon, Chénas, Fleurie, as well as some plots located on great terroirs of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. Anita’s viticultural practices are specific to each plot, but always within her overarching philosophy of sustainable viticulture, with minimal treatments, green harvesting and strong canopy management. In the cellar, Anita is assisted by Guy Marion, former head of winemaking at Georges Duboeuf with no less than 52 harvests in Beaujolais.

This cuvée, made from 60 years old vines grown on one of the appellation’s finest terroirs “Aux Caves”, 100% Gamay vinified in the Burgundian style. Sandy soil infiltrated with manganese at approximately 240 meters altitude. The grapes were destemmed, the vat was punched down, and the wine underwent a long aging process in oak barrels. The complex and intense nose blends aromas of jammy black fruit, rose, and roasted notes of mocha, vanilla, and spice. On the palate, the wine is generous, with a beautiful structure and firm, smooth tannins.

“Imagine gorging yourself on a whole handful of the ripest wild blackberries and that is the beginning of this great journey! On the palate there’s a breathtaking interplay of mineral freshness with a small ocean of berry fruit and super-fine tannins. An endless finish that’s so complex and so vibrant it makes you glad to be alive. Decades of aging potential. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 100 points (2021 vintage)

“A totally classic Beaujolais, but this mind-blowing wine also redefines what Beaujolais can be. That starts with how it pulls the white rabbit of mind-blowing freshness and purity out of the hat in this very hot and dry vintage. The depth of the red fruit aromas is off the scale. Enormously concentrated but precise and filigreed, with an almost overwhelming minerality in the almost endless finish. From old vines in the Les Caves site of Moulin-a-Vent. Matured in used oak barrels from Burgundy for just under a year.” James Suckling 100 points (2022 vintage)

“An astonishing expression of the new spirit of Beaujolais, this has the depth and finesse of a great Grand Cru red burgundy married to the vitality and purity that only this region can achieve. The mind-blowing, velvety texture is interwoven with amazing crushed-rock and wet-stone minerality on the expansive palate. The exceptionally long finish, at once firm and precise, just doesn’t want to stop. From a five- hectare block in the Aux Caves site. 20% whole-cluster fermented. Matured for almost a year in used Burgundian oak casks. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 99 points (2023 vintage)
