Description
Clos des Lambrays on kindlasti Burgundia üks parimaid grand cru’sid, olleks üks neljast Morey-Saint-Denis appellatsioonis asuvast grand cru aiast. Teised on Clos de Tart, Clos Saint Denis ning Clos de la Roche. Clos des Lambrays ajalugu ulatub tagasi juba 14. sajandisse, kuid 1981. aastal omistati sellel aiale grand cru staatus.
Domaine des Lambrays omab 8.66 ha Clos des Lambray’st ning 0.18 ha kuulub ühele teisele tootjale, seega on tegemist praktiliselt monopole veiniaiaga. 2014 aastal ostis veinimõisa LVMH. Clos des Lambrays asub 250m kõrgusel merepinnast, veinipuude keskmine vanus on 50+ aastat ja keskmine saagikus on 31 hl/ha kohta. Clos des Lambrays aastane toodang on umbes 30,000 pudelit.
Viinamarjad pressitakse täiskobaratena ning kääritatakse suurtes avatud terasmahutites 15-18 päeva. Vein laagerdub 18 kuud tammes, millest 50% on igal aastal uued vaadid. Vein on suurepärase tasakaaluga, jõuline kuid samas elegantne ja siidine, mineraalse ja väga puhta pika järelmaitsega.
“This definitely represents a new beginning for the Clos des Lambrays, beginning with a dizzying array of aromas that range from high-toned red fruits to ripe, plummy black fruit, all touched with spice, and a suggestion of wild herbs and fresh flowers. After blending there was an average of 80% whole cluster fermentation. The texture on the palate is concentrated but not heavy, and there is a charming, silky aspect to it so, despite the tannin and density, the overall impression is one of finesse and elegance.” Decanter 98 points
“Jacques has gone with 80% whole bunch and 60% new wood, whereas Thierry Brouin preferred 50% new wood but all of it from François Frères. Jacques has varied his barrel coopers a little more and paid extra attention to the chauffe. We tasted almost all the cuvées and there were radical differences depending on location and vine age. What matters though will be the final blend, of which Jacques prepared me what should be an accurate version. A fine deep and even crimson color. Complex bouquet as you might expect after tasting all the components. There is a serene weight to this, with waves of detail. A richer fruit perhaps than before and though the whole bunch percentage is 80% it is much more submerged in the fruit. Starting to get some aromatic top notes, very persistent. Neither acid nor tannins standing out, more the fruit but with a sense of a refined structure too. Very beautiful complex, perfumed finish. I am not going to say that Jacques has gone straightaway back to the great vintage of the ‘20s and ‘30s but there is very considerable promise here.” Jasper Morris 93-97 points
“The 2019 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru has a completely different bouquet compared to the 2020. Intense brambly red fruit, black plum, a little earthiness, maybe less mineralite compared to the ‘20. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite fresh, more linear than expected. I wonder if this will close down for a few years? Quite compact towards the finish. Still, this is a great success.” Vinous 96 points
“Offers plenty of finesse allied to a firm structure, showcasing rose, cherry, currant, mineral and spice flavors. Vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins are well-proportioned in this version, while the aftertaste lingers on and on. A picture of elegance, purity and length. Collectible!” Wine Spectator 96 points
“An extremely subtle application of wood sets off the intensely floral-scented nose of herbal tea, poached plum, spice elements and a hint of newly turned earth. There is excellent volume to the caressing yet punchy medium weight plus flavors that exude both a lovely minerality and focused power on the delineated and beautifully persistent finish. 2019 is a fine vintage for Clos des Lambrays and one that should repay extended keeping.” Burghound 95 points
“The 2019 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is showing very well in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, strawberries and plums mingled with scents of orange rind, rose petals and sweet spices. Full-bodied, ample and satiny, it’s a sensual, caressing wine with a fleshy core of fruit, polished tannins and lively balancing acids. This will offer a broad drinking window.” Wine Advocate 95 points
