Egon Mülleri Rieslingud on vaieldamatult Saksamaa ja kogu maailma parimad ning paljud asjatundjad peavad teda üldse Saksamaa parimaks veinitootjaks. Ta on ka ainuke Saksamaa esindaja kuulsas Primum Familiae Vini klubis, kuhu kuulub 11 pereomanduses olevat eliitveinimaja kogu maailmast. Mõned teised liikmed: Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, Sassicaia, Famille Perrin ja Vega Sicilia. Egon Mülleri veinid on selgelt mõeldud suurtele Rieslingu armastajatele ning ei ole kindlasti laiadele massidele, kasvõi ainuüksi limiteeritud tootmismahtu arvestades. Veinimaja kõige haruldasem ja magusam vein – Trockenbeerenauslese maksab 4000 eurot pudel ning seda müüakse ainult kord aastas Trieris toimuval veinioksjonil.
Veinimaja on asutatud 1797. aastal Egon Mülleri poolt ning praegu juhib mõisa samuti Egon Müller (4. põlvkond). Ka tema lapse nimi on Egon ja isegi nende koera nimi on Egon. Perele kuulub 8 hektarit (millest 3 hektarit on üle 100 aastased) veiniaedu maailmakuulsas 28 hektari suuruses Scharzhofbergi veiniaias. See on kindlasti Moseli kõige kuulsam aed, mis asub Saar’i alamtsoonis ning on klassifitseeritud kui ‘premier cru’. Scharzhofbergi kiltkivine aed asub väga järsul nõlvakul (35-70 kraadise nurga all), mis teeb seal töötamise väga keerukaks. Räägitakse, et Moselis kulub hooaja jooksul umbes 7 korda rohkem töötunde kui tasasemas regioonis nagu näiteks Médoc.
Eranditult kõik viinamarjad koristatakse käsitsi, pressitakse kestadega kontaktis olemata ning kääritatakse 1000 liitri suurustes tammemahutites, kus veinid ka 6 kuud laagerduvad. Egon Mülleri veinid on kuulsad oma elegantse stiili, mineraalsuse, küllaltki kõrge happesuse ning väga pika vananemispotentsiaali poolest.
Scharzhof Riesling QbA on Egon Mülleri kõige lihtsam vein, mis on hea alguspunkt veinimõisaga tutvumiseks. Aroomis on tunda sidrunit, laimi ning erinevaid valgeid marju. Maitses eristuvad õunakoored ja mahe vürstikus. Järelmaitse on väga pikk, kus on tunda ananassi ja vanilje noote. Soovitatav tarbida järgmise 3-12 aasta jooksul.
“The grapes grow in the Oberemmeler Rosenberg, Wiltinger Braunfels, which is an extension of the Scharzhofberg. Wiltinger Braune Kupp and Wiltinger Kupp, which adjoins Braune Kupp on the left, and indeed a little Saarburger Rausch. Egon Müller has had a parcel in Saarburger Rausch since 1997. Mainly vinified in steel tanks, but also in Mosel barrels. Totally delicate, playful fruit, green apple, sweet pear, white pepper, a little sea salt. 2022 is accessible and open, is immediately there in its fine European fruit. Granny Smith, sweet amalfi lemon, cool, ultra-fine and stony in appearance. A wonderfully clear juice in 2022, so playful and prancing, very polished. A very classic Scharzhof in its sweet European fruit. Delicate and floating on the palate, the QbA is supple and juicy-fine, has a light yellow and herbaceous, but very round fruit. It contains early-picked and later-picked lots. This very early harvest gives the wine tension and freshness, but at the same time it was already very ripe due to the warm summer. This blend is somehow unique, Egon Müller himself has no analogies to this particular vintage. “Lively and subtle nose of ripe yellow apple, white peach and wild flowers. Juicy and elegant with a vibrant acidity that lights this up beautifully. A touch of perceptible grape sweetness at the front of the medium-bodied palate, but the long, wet stone finish is admirably dry. Spot on balance. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 92 points
“The 2022er Riesling Scharzhof is a fruity-styled wine made from the Estate’s holdings in the Saarburger Rausch, the Oberemmeler Rosenberg, the Wiltinger Kupp, and the Wiltinger Braunfels. It offers a very delicate and elegant peach-driven nose of candied grapefruit, minty herbs, lime tree, fine herbs, and smoke. The wine proves superbly zesty and straight on the light-weighted and finely creamy palate. The finish is still marked by some CO2 in need of integration, but the length is superb. The after-taste is just slightly off-dry in taste. This is a superb Scharzhof, which will need a few years to fully deliver. 2027-2037.” Mosel Fine Wines 90 points
“The 2022 Riesling Scharzhof was harvested in Saarburg, Wiltingen and Oberemmel and fermented spontaneously, half in stainless steel, half in Fuder. The nose has subtle yeast notes but comes across as very fresh, with hints of green apple and lemon and a slightly flinty flicker. The palate is exquisitely light and gently sweet. Herbal notions like yarrow and tansy join in with the lemon and the juicy, tart apple fruit. Much length with this weightlessness.
