Description
“Grown on the sloping sites of the middle Nahe region in weathered volcanic soil and loess loam. Age of vines 20 – 30 years, yields 50 hl/ha, 100% selective hand harvest. Fermentation and then maturing during 4 months in a classic large barrel made of German oak. Quintessential dry Weissburgunder from the Nahe valley. Fully fermented, with stunning character and an elegant minerality, a beautiful complement to any meal.” Cornelius Dönnhoff (Owner & Winemaker)
“Weissburgunder vineyards have been in the Dönnhoffs’ family for decades. These vines are on the deeper soils that are too rich for the Riesling. The plots are mostly in Kreuznach, where there is a bit more clay in the soil. Short maceration in the press, fermented with lees. Aging entirely in wood, also more smaller barrels by now, but mostly used. Cornelius has already clearly refined the style of the Weissburgunder and made it a bit more “French” and gastronomic, without leaving the lean typicality of the middle Nahe aside, which remains his main goal. White peach, green pear, a bit of white pepper. This is Pinot Blanc from the hands of a Riesling winemaker, tense, racy and polished. The wine shows the coolness of the Nahe.” Heiner Lobenberg 92 points
