“Many folk may not know that, in the 1970s, South Africa produced world famous red blends comprising of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault, which combined the finesse of Cinsault with the power of Cab. The Pitch Black blend is a retro tribute to this Golden Age. Classical blend os 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Cabernet Franc, 13% Cinsault, 10% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec. All the varieties besides the Cinsault are de-stemmed and fermented on the skins for 2-3 weeks before pressing and ageing in small French oak barrels for a period 18 months, 20% new. The Cinsault was fermented whole bunch and aged in stainless steel tanks.” JD Pretorius – Warwick cellarmaster

“Exceptional 6-way blend, Cab & the other black Bordeaux grapes plus touch Cinsault from Helderberg & Polkadraai vines. Exceptional balance of plush fruit, deft oak (20% new) & lively acid.” Platter’s Guide 93 points

“The inspiration for this wine – a new addition to the Warwick range in 2017 – is the Chateau Libertas wines of old, which married Bordeaux varieties with some Cinsault. Far from “pitch black” in colour, this is grassy, spicy and red fruited, with some clove and tobacco notes from partial whole bunch fermentation and fine, caressing tannins. 2022-2027” Tim Atkin 92 points
