Château Lafleur on koos Château Pétrusi ja Le Pin’iga kindlasti Pomeroli ja kogu Bordeaux hierarhia absoluutses tipus. Lafleuri ajalugu ulatub tagasi aastasse 1872 ja veinimõis on sama perekonna (Guinaudeau) omanduses tänaseni. Tegemist on igas mõttes ebatavalise Bordeaux veinimõisaga. Alustades sellest, et omanikest pereliikmed töötavad igapäevaselt veiniaedades ja veinikeldris ning lõpetades sellega, et Lafleur müüb oma veine otse valitud maaletoojatele.
Lafleuri perfektne ruudukujuline veiniaed on vaid 4.5 hektari suurune (võrdluseks Pétrus on näiteks 11.7, Le Pin 2.7 ja Lafite Rothschild 116 hektarit) ja asub kuulsa Pomeroli platoo südames. Naabriteks on Pétrus, Vieux Château Certan, Hosanna ja Lafleur-Pétrus. Olenemata sellest, et Lafleur ja Pétrus on otsesed naabrid, on need kaks veini väga erinevad. Kui Pétrusi veiniaias on savi ja vein on 100% Merlot, siis Lafleuri veiniaias on savi-liivane kruus ja kiviklibu. Seetõttu moodustab Cabernet Franc lausa 50% Lafleuri veiniaiast, olles sellega ülekaalukalt kõige suurema Cabernet Franci osakaaluga vein kogu Pomerolis.
Lafleuri veinipuud on väga vanad, keskmine vanus on 50 aastat, aga paljud on ka märkimisväärselt vanemad. Kogu töö veiniaias on äärmiselt põhjalik – igal veinipuul on täiesti individuaalne lähenemine ja kõik detailid on piinliku täpsusega dokumenteeritud – absoluutselt iga veinipuu kohta on olemas märkmed. Lafleuri omanikud, Guinaudeau pereliikmed, töötavad igapäevaselt veiniaias ja peavad ennast pigem aednikeks kui veinimõisa omanikeks.
2023 Château Lafleur on valmistatud 54% Cabernet Franc ja 46% Merlot viinamarjadest. Laagerdatud Prantsuse tammevaatides 15 kuud (25% uut tamme).

“A blend of 54% Bouchet (Cabernet Franc) and 46% Merlot, the 2023 Lafleur has a deep garnet-purple color. It slowly unfurls with very pure scents of wild blueberries and violets, opening out to notes of boysenberry preserves, licorice, rose bud tea, sassafras, and fragrant earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is deceptively ethereal, yet amazingly dense, with super-fine, pixilated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and fragrant. Wow! “Both varietals achieved equal quality. Violet, the parfumier’s essence of lavender. Iris. Espresso coffee bean. A little spice and a crack and a twist of white pepper. Blueberries and fruits of the forest with aeration, a lovely hint of redcurrant and blackcurrant freshness in the mid palate. Walnut oil. Heather. Iodine and oyster shell. An intimate wine as it tends to be in its infancy. Perfection texturally. So cool, so layered and pixilated, so composed. It’s actually difficult at first to find the tannins as they are so finely-grained. Spherical in form and frame. And it grows in amplitude over the palate, eventually pushing out the cheeks and giving the stage to the Bouchet to sing and to dance. So sapid and succulent. Such lift on the finish.
