Domaine Anita is located in the heart of the Moulin à Vent cru in Beaujolais, France. The winery was established by Anita Kuhnel, a former professional cyclist, in 2015. She took over 18 hectares of vines first planted in 1973. The vineyard includes some of the most prestigious crus of Beaujolais including Moulin à Vent, Morgon, Chénas, Fleurie, as well as some plots located on great terroirs of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. Anita’s viticultural practices are specific to each plot, but always within her overarching philosophy of sustainable viticulture, with minimal treatments, green harvesting and strong canopy management. In the cellar, Anita is assisted by Guy Marion, former head of winemaking at Georges Duboeuf with no less than 52 harvests in Beaujolais.
La Rochelle is one of the greatest terroirs of Moulin-à-Vent, one of its finest creations in this bottle. Deep pink granite at an altitude of 280 meters. Vinified with 100% destemmed Gamay grapes. The vat was patiently crafted and punched down during 25 days of maceration, in the purest Burgundian tradition. This ruby-colored cuvée will captivate you with its incredibly complex aromas (black cherry, morello cherry, almond, sweet spices, faded rose). On the palate, the tannins are firm yet graceful, caressing the palate. The class and pedigree of this wine far transcend the borders of our Beaujolais!
“Tasting this feels like standing on a beach, then being hit by a giant wave and carried away, but in the most delightful way. Great sour cherry and black cherry fruit plus a stack of very fine tannins and a slew of spicy notes. From 40-50 year-old vines in weathered granite. Very long fermentation on the skins, then almost a year in Burgundian oak. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.” James Suckling 98 points (2021 vintage)
“If you want to know why so many old wine books sing the praises of this appellation, try this expansively rich and velvety Moulin-a-Vent. Masses of fine tannins that are already beautifully integrated on the medium- to full-bodied palate. They build and build to an almost overwhelming climax in the fabulously long and impeccably balanced finish. Limited production. Matured in used oak barrels from Burgundy for just under a year. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 99 points (2022 vintage)
“Hold onto your hat. This is an extraordinarily seductive expression of Moulin-a-Vent. Dense and compact but also incredibly plush and dynamic, it makes a huge statement, a bit like meeting the goddess of black cherries. Interlocking fine tannins and remarkable minerality in the dazzling, almost endless finish. From totally destemmed fruit. Cold maceration for four days. Long fermentation. Aged 11 months in used Burgundian barrels. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 99 points (2023 vintage)
