Description
Opus One on Napas asuv kultusveinimõis, mis loodi kahe veinimaailma ikooni Baron Philippe Rothschildi ning Robert Mondavi ühisprojektina 1979. aastal. Opus One on ka üks nendest mitte-Bordeaux tippveinidest, mida nüüdseks suures osas ainult läbi Bordeaux veinibörsi (Place de Bordeaux) müüakse. Neid veine ei ole palju, Itaaliast Masseto ja Solaia; Prantsusmaalt Hommage a Jacques Perrin, Tšiilist Sena, Almaviva ja Clos Apalta ning USA-st Opus One.
Overture on Opus One’i “second label”, mis loodi 1993. aastal. Pikki aastaid oli vein saadaval vaid otse veinimõisast ja seda said proovida vaid mõisa külalised. Vein on valmistatud 5st põhilisest Bordeaux viinamarjasodist, millest enamus moodustab Cabernet Sauvignon, veini on laagerdatud vähemalt 18 kuud Prantsuse barrique vaatides. Overture’i saab juua tunduvalt varem kui mõisa esiveini, mis vajab kauem aega küpsemiseks, et täielikult avaneda. Overture on mõeldud kohe joomiseks, samuti on see tunduvalt soodsam kui Opus One, suur osa veinist müüakse Napa restoranidele, vaid väga väike osa jõuab eksportturgudele.
“Vivid cherry red, medium intensity, pared back and moreish. Enticing charred plum and spiced black cherry, restrained and savoury, chalky tannins, good lift through the palate without losing the creaminess of the fruit, a dusting of cocoa powder adds a gourmet twist. 100% new oak for ageing. 2021 was a very dry vintage (2nd driest in history of Opus) but there were few extremes of temperature, and this is a delicious Overture. First one with a vintage on the label, after a few years of slowly moving that way. Impressive, easy to recommend.” Jane Anson 93 points
“Overture 2021, the first vintage-dated bottling of Opus One’s second wine, offers fresh aromas of plum, blackberry, and cherry enhanced by alluring notes of dried rose petals, forest floor, and earthy minerality. Juicy and bright on the palate with distinctive flavors of black currant, blueberry, and fraises du bois, the wine delivers a velvety texture with powdery tannins. Subtle coffee and dark chocolate round out the long finish, coupled with a well-integrated acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon 89%, Cabernet Franc 4%, Petit Verdot 4% and Merlot 3%, skin contact 19 days, barrel aging 19,5 months in 100% new French oak.”
