UUS TOODE!
Bollingeri uus “Limited Edition”, tegemist on “single-vintage” ehk ühe konkreetse aastakäigu champagne’ga, antud juhul 2016. aastakäigust. Varem on sarnaseid “eriprojekte” valmistatud 2003 ja 2013 aastakäigust, nendel aastatel ei valmistatud La Grande Année’d. Bollinger B16 valmistamiseks on kasutatud 73% Pinot Noir ja 27% Chardonnay viinamarju, mis on pärit valdavalt Montage de Reims’i küladest. Domineerib Bouzy küla, lisaks väiksemates osades Verzy, Verzenay, Tauxieres, Louvois, Avenay-val-d’Or, Trépail ja teised, kokku 13 küla. Vein on kääritatud tammevaatides, küpsemine settega naturaalkorgiga suletud pudelis rohkem kui 7 aastat, settest eemaldatud november 2024, dosage 4 grammi liitri kohta (Extra Brut).
“The 2016 vintage was marked by contrasting climate conditions that went on to shape a unique cuvée. A cold and very wet spring, with higher than average rainfall, gave way to a series of late frosts in April and May, impacting yields. These difficult conditions continued into a gloomy, sunless June, which delayed flowering for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir until the end of the month. But a Champagne Miracle saved the day: from August on, the climate turned on its head, with a hot, dry, and sunny summer providing ideal ripening conditions for the grapes. August and September were characterised by generous sunshine and slightly higher than normal temperatures, allowing the grapes to flourish. Crystal clear, glimmering with flickers of golden light. Delicate floral aromas interlace with scents of hawthorn and acacia, honey in a display of the bouquet’s infinite finesse. Accents of ripe stone fruits and bergamot bring a lively freshness. A silky texture unfolds with ethereal finesse, bringing subtle elegance and perfect balance. The finish is both long and delicate. To fully appreciate its unique style and aromas, B16 is best served between 8 and 10°C. You can enjoy B16 now or leave it in the cellar to develop further.”

“Bollinger’s team of winemakers, in a moment of pure, unadulterated genius – or perhaps just exquisite boredom – decided not to produce a 2016 La Grande Année. A move as bold as it was peculiar. Instead of the usual masterful blend of Aÿ and its customary supporting cast, they set out on a delightful little stroll through the Montagne de Reims. The result is a wine that is essentially a map of its own geography, a floating census of the region. A full 25% of the grapes come from Bouzy, a village that has clearly spent the year grooming itself for the limelight. Verzy, Verzenay, Tauxières and even a dash of Trépail Chardonnay all get their moment, while the usual protagonist, Aÿ, has been relegated to a cameo so brief you’d miss it if you blinked. Don’t worry, they haven’t gone completely mad. The process of making remains the same, a reassuringly stubborn commitment to tradition: old oak barrels, bottle aging under cork, and the gentle, human touch of remuage and dégorgement by hand. All of which proves that even when you reinvent the wheel, it’s best to keep the hubcaps. The result is a wine that is, of course, very good. But it’s a very different creature. The characteristic, structured cockiness of La Grande Année has been replaced by something much more delicate, a smooth, silky, sinuous movement that whispers of Bouzy’s soft, gentle form. The familiar hazelnut notes, the ones we’ve come to expect, have been replaced by a softer, sweeter almond. The apple is now a peach, and the honeysuckle, gone, has been replaced by the more rustic hawthorn and bird cherry. It’s a wonderfully precise wine, a testament to what happens when you give a particular patch of land the chance to speak for itself. It seems that this champagne is not just a bottle, but a somewhat more elegant and engaging lecture on terroir.” The Champagne Sommelier 94 points
“Bollinger’s winemaking team chose early on not to make a La Grande Année 2016 and took the opportunity to experiment a bit with a different geographical focus than any previous cuvée. They focused almost exclusively on making a terroir-driven wine from the Montagne de Reims with Bouzy instead of Aÿ as the starting point. Although there are 13 villages involved, 5 of them emphatically dominate. Aÿ, for example, which usually dominates Bollinger’s vintage champagne, contributes less than 1 percent this time. Bouzy accounts for a full 25% of the composition with Verzy 10%, Verzenay 8%, Tauxières 7% and 14% Chardonnay coming from Trépail. The vinification with the old oak barrels, bottle aging under cork, hand remuage and disgorging by hand is exactly the same as always, but the style is completely different with a completely different terroir expression. Just like the VVF from 2016, Bollinger B from the same vintage has a 4 gram dosage. This is of course a very good wine and it is extremely exciting to see how the vineyards put their own fingerprint on the whole. I am most struck by the difference in structure compared to LGA. Here everything is silky and slim, with Bouzy’s soft, slightly gentle form without the depth I usually find in LGA. Even the most characteristic hazelnut aroma is replaced with sweet almond. The apple notes are toned down and the peach notes take over. The honeysuckle is gone and has been replaced by hawthorn and bird cherry. The precision is eminent and the development potential may be higher than I indicated as time will probably erase some of the differences compared to LGA.” Richard Juhlin 92 points
